SEND Support in Schools in Hertfordshire
Most additional support is accessed through a child’s nursery, school or college. Start with the teacher or SENCO, share clear examples and ask how needs, support, outcomes and review dates are being recorded.
SEN Support and the SENCO
Hertfordshire’s Local Offer says schools must put SEN Support in place where it is required. Ask what has been assessed, what will be tried, who is responsible, what outcome is expected and when progress will be reviewed. This reflects the assess–plan–do–review approach without assuming every child needs an EHCP.
If support is not working
Request a review and bring examples showing what has or has not changed. Ask whether support should be adjusted, whether specialist advice is needed and whether further assessment may help. Keep written records. If needs remain unmet despite support, EHC needs assessment guidance may become relevant.
