Most children’s needs should first be explored through SEN Support: a clear plan, purposeful adjustments, regular review and evidence of what is helping. Ask the SENCO to explain assess-plan-do-review in plain English.
Work with the SENCO
Ask what support is in place, what has been tried, how progress is measured and when the next review will happen.
Keep clear evidence
Keep plans, reports, review notes and examples showing both what has helped and what remains difficult.
When an EHC assessment may be relevant
If SEN Support is not meeting needs, the next step may be to discuss evidence and Surrey County Council’s current assessment route.
